How to Type on the Keyboard - Part 2
Most keyboards have bumps on the F and J keys. You can use these to feel where to put your index fingers, so you can always find the home row without looking.
Typing.co recognizes that some keys are easier to type than others. Your index and middle fingers - used for keys in the middle of the keyboard - are the fingers you have the most control over. They're used for finely controlled movements, such as writing with a pencil. As a result, most people find it easier to type with these two fingers.
The ring and little fingers - used for keys on the edges of the keyboard - are the fingers you have the least control over, and are used for tasks involving grasping, stabilization and strength. Most people find it harder to type with these two fingers. Typing.co will give these fingers extra attention. Create an account to get started with the course.
Calculating Typing Speed: The standard formula for calcuating typing speed is to take the number of characters typed and divide by 5 (the average word length, counting the space between words). This is divided by the number of seconds spent typing, then multiplied by 60 to get the words per minute.
